Another cheap.... I mean inexpensive way to go are the silver reflectors (the ones you put in your car windows to keep the sun out) could be used to bounce the light.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I don't have any form core, but I do have some white plastic Wal-mart style plastic bags that might also work the same way -- yet ANOTHER use for Wal-mart bags!!!!! I am still struggling with lighting issues. I bought a battery-operated camping lantern just for more light -- keep in mind I'm recording these sitting in the sleeper of my truck.

The problem with me looking down is that I'm too close to the computer screen. I'm reading an on-screen teleprompter in the "Visual Communicator Web" program. I've got the camera positioned just above the screen. If I were farther away from the screen and camera, it would appear more like I'm looking at the camera and not down the screen. This is another problem for me to work on resolving.

here's what you do.

wait somewhere near his shop so you can see when he shows up for work. once he goes inside pop the hood of his car and steal his coil wire. that way he won't be able to leave. then go inside the shop and tell him that you want your fucking tattoo or you're gonna tell everyone in town that he's a crack head and did your worst tattoo, even better hand poke one some where the tattoo he's supposed to do will cover up. Tell him you want it started today and that he can call someone else and cancell them to get you in the chair. If he says some thing like "I have somewhere i have to be" just say "whatever chump" and leave. go to the spot you were watching him pull up and laugh your ass off while he gets pissed off that his car won't start. Keep his coil wire, if you ever do get to sit in his chair and get tattooed, wait till he's done and then reach into your purse or whatever like you were getting him a tip, and hand him his coil wire. Say something like "Thanx for the tat, maybe next time I won't have to resort to pranx to get you to work on me.

You'll notice on the left wing that at the bottom, he made one of the
feathers a bloody stalk for the thistle, and hasn't taken the wing as
far down as it chould be. The three feathers at the top of the
thistle were originally green. as he thought they were leaves. And
has recoloured blue.
Also the green thing sticking out the groing of the cherub is
supposed to be a jaggy thistle leaf.
Looks more like a smooth green willy !!

Thinking of going to Spacy at Bizare Ink, Edinburgh for a rework.
Does anyone know more about him. I know he's winning alot of comps at
moment.
Reason I'm asking is this. My Partner George died in January. And
I've designed a shoulder piece as my tribute to him. As I am still
young it doesn't have his name or picture, just symbols that mean
alot me me and connect with him, large barn owl for instance and some
masonic stuff, all worked into a good design. Just need to find the
right person for the Job

Boy do I ever feel your pain. My artist cancels appointments on me all the
time. But he's an awesome artist and I really like him and his work, so I
persist. Sometimes it takes me calling his cell phone every week for
months before I can even get an appointment. I've considered finding
another artist but it's so hard to know whether or would love someone
else's work as much as I love his. So I put up with his BS and keep
calling him. Eventually I'll get my backpiece finished!!

Hi Guys,

The tat is slightly smaller than the flash piccy. And it was actually
the artist who was recommended, sorry if i didn't make that clear.
I talked with him befroe hand. and saw work on guys that were there.
He'd been tattooing for 25 years aparantly. I'll see if I can get a
clearer piccy for you and you'll see the wing better.

I hate to tell you, but it's entirely up to you. I can only tell you what I would do if faced with a similar circumstance. If the person allows his personal problems to affect his professional work, I likely would find someone else. I can't allow my personal problems to intrude on my own work, and I don't put up with it in people I'm paying to work for me.

A couple of years ago I got a guy I knew (a friend of my youngest brother's) to put a railing around my front deck. The guy does great work, but the problem turned out to be that it was next to IMPOSSIBLE to get him to show up. He was great at making promises -- the guy is super-charming. This dragged on for months -- I'd already given him money to buy the materials. The only way I finally was able to resolve the situation and get the railing installed was to get my youngest brother to set a time to come and help him put the railing on. I've not seen the guy since. Like I said, he does great work, IF you can get him to show up. Would I ever call this guy to do anything else for me? HELL NO !!!!! I don't care HOW good his work is. I have to show up for work and not allow my personal problems to affect my performance, and I expect the same from other people.

If I were getting a big bargain, I am more willing to put up with problems and delays if I'm sure of the final outcome.

Ask yourself how much delay you are willing to put up with. Are you getting a bargain by going to this guy? Full sleeves will require a considerable amount of chair time. If he starts the job, will he be able to finish it at the rate he's going? Will you be ready for social security by the time the sleeves are finished?

One thing I've learned about getting heavy ink is that I had to take the bull by the horns and make it happen. Getting a lot of ink is different than getting a single tattoo. I had to push things along to make it happen.

See if another artist at that shop will redo it free. (If the shop came highly recommended, they should. BTW It worries me when people recommend a *shop.* A lot of shops have a mix of good and so-so artists working in them. People should be recommending particular artists, not shops. Gladys,

I looked at both of the links you sent. I hate to agree with you, but if I were you I wouldn't be satisfied with the finished product either.

I don't recall you mentioning how large it is. I'd suggest going to a good artist that's comfortable with both re-works and cover-ups. The artist you go to should be able to come up with something to either fix the image or cover it up with something else.

I've always been pretty fortunate that I ended up with ink that was acceptable. However, in the end, especially with an artist that you don't have any personal experience with, you can end up with something that's less than perfect. In fact, even the best artists can sometimes mess up and/or have a "bad" day.

I would suggest hanging out at a shop for a while and look at other peoples' tattoos before you pick one to fix it. Another good suggestion is to find a guy who has been doing it for many years and knows his (or her) stuff. Also look at photos of the particular artist's work. Don't assume that just because a "shop" has been recommended by a friend that all of the artists in the shop are equally talented.

I know from personal experience that this is probably bugging the hell out of you. Don't do anything rash. Go to a few different shops and talk to several artists before you make a decision.

By the way, I will soon be publishing a guide to getting a tattoo that will be for sale in Adobe PDF form as well as a downloadable MP3 file. I'll post links to it once it becomes available for sale. The last communication I received from the site that's publishing it said it would likely be available around November 28th, so it should be coming up soon.

I hope this helps you out. Also, if Dusty is still online he might be able to come up with some good ideas for you too. Dusty hasn't posted any messages for a while so I hope he comes back online soon !!!

Hey all! well it's finally happening,i'm getting my sleeves
started.YAHOO!I'v been waiting for nine months for this appt. with
the best tattooist on Hawaii.He's actually originally from
NYC,worked in New York Adorned for years.His name is Mike Ledger and
he does beautiful Asian style work.Usually I design all my own stuff
but, his work is soooo good I want him to design it.I told him it
has to be a theme of women and horses(all my tats have that theme).I
want it to show the power and beauty of both.He's creating the
design so that when I put my forearms together it will create one
picture of a woman holding the horse by a set of Buddist prayer
beads.Sounds complicated but I have great faith in him to draw up

I have tattoos that are 4 years old that do that. Whenever I get stressed or nervous, my black on some of my tattoos raises up. LOL, it then goes down after an hour or so.

yes dani it is normal for outlines to be slightly "rasied"I have tattoos tht
are over 10 y/o that still feel raised, not to wory, it is normal

I agree that this is the cause of your depression - you were looking
for approval and acceptance, and their comments made you second guess

I remember when I was in high school people said guys could only get
their ears pierced in their left ear (or was it the right?) or it
meant that they were gay. Now I see both straight and gay guys with
their ears pierced on either side or both sides, or all over the damn
place and no-one makes any assumptions as to their sexuality based on
that!

Only a few years ago people assumed that a woman with a tattoo on her
upper arm was a lesbian - it was considered a butch, "dyke-ish" place
to get a tat. These days plenty of straight (and gay) women have
upper arm tats.

So my point is times change, attitudes change - those dickheads that
were giving you a hard time were just being immature, don't worry
about them. Maybe a few years ago only women were getting lower back
tats, but nowadays plenty of guys get ink there too. Don't worry
about it.

Thank you all. I'm only 21, and i got my first and second tattoos within 1 month. I used to be very judgemental (MIght be one of whom MIsty described as "stuck up rich kid"), when i was a teen. Now, i find myself a more open minded person and not to judge others based on the way they look/dress/etc. As much as i liked not to care what others think, it still affected me slightly. I guess it's something you must learn and fight for. But hey, it used to be worse, i had extremely low confidence.

I have gotten that many times, being a woman with so many "not so feminine tats". Usually it is stuck up little rich girls that giggle and point. I had an interesting experience a few years ago where I was able to put my own advice into practice.

I happened to walk into a bank to make a deposit. There was an old retired-looking man standing in the bank waiting on his wife. As soon as he laid eyes on me, he scowled and shook his head as our eyes met, making certain I saw him. My own reaction was not to become upset. I walked right past him, without reaction, to the other end of the small building to the teller counter and took care of my business. After I walked out of the bank I realized what had happened. By NOT becoming upset (resentful, frustrated, etc.) with his obvious disapproval, it was as if the energy he was putting out reversed polarity and it was quite a positive, freeing experience. I realized at that moment I could look as ridiculous or outrageous as I wanted to, and what people "thought" didn't matter whatsoever. The entire key to dealing with people successfully every time in every possible situation lies directly in one's own mind.

Thank you Alan! Your post did make a lot sense however, i do not know if i leaked plasma blood thing or not? It was on my lower back so I could not see. However, today i woke up exhausted and did not have a good night sleep. I did sleep but not those deep sleep I ALWAYS have. I tried napping this afternoon but again, i couldn't sleep. And my mood today has been shitty, somehow i feel a grey clouds are stuffed in my brain.

Yes, it's your body screeming that its been violated badly. I go thru pretty much the same thing no matter where on my body I have ink put. When I had my upper back-shoulders done, I was in bed for 2 days with flu type symtoms and suffer from complete exhaustion. I have 13 pieces so far and most of my back is covered and most of my arms, am going to start on chest-upper stomach and legs before spring and Speedo season. Got a question for you, when your tat man works on you do you "leak" plasma blood flow clear part of blood?? I do but my man says some guys just leak alot some don't. We did an hour & half, On my left arm , below the little man I
already have.. so it starts just above the elbow & finishes....well
its a face & beard , and the long beard finishes about 2 ins above

thats a tough question. as some inks dont mix well with one thing or the other. some water (distiled of course), some alcahol! I KNOW SOUNDS BRUTAL!. the right thing to do would be call or email the mfgr and get advice from them directly. for thickening, strait glycerin liqquid seams to work best for any. i prefer inks thinner myself, seems to penetrate better. but ink thickness is not synonomous with high solids content. more pigment dosent have to be thick, and thick doesnt mean more pigment. anything you add to you color dilutes it! lowering ppm of pigment! if your ink is too thin for your liking, it would be far better to your advantage to find a mfg that makes it the way you like it. sincerely, Dusty

thanks youse guys, im going to significantly thickin the outer outline, and a little thickin a few of the major overlaps to give it a serious new school look, but im shading and blending the colors to give him the realistic look i like. it should really be an eye googler whin its done. ill send yall photo. i really have fun with link, i was really into rpg's in my college days, d&d, rifts, white wolf, all that good stuff, i dont have time and its hard to find gamers with my kinda schedule, so link is my character nowa days. his adventures bring me back to my college years and all the fun we had. i want him to really be done to the t's, neat i was able to cover up that old p.o.s. i had at the same time, and HUGE! my leg is really big! and it just about covers it! thinking some background in the future, this one is fun! :o) Dusty

i was tattooing myself last night. doing a coverup of a tattoo an apprentice did years ago. its a long ways from being done. im going now school style so i have to thicken all the outer edges, and play with inside line thickness too. i didnt take a before photo because i dont care to have a memiore of what it was. im more interested in what its to be. but my art this time is very very trendy. and as i was working i was reminiscing our lengthy conversation about trendy and fad tattoos. and so many things were going through my mind, trying not to think about the pain of all that damn black work in the cover area, and fad or trend or not, my love for the game and its characters (zelda and link) makes me just not give a rats ass what anyone thinks now, or 50 years from now. and i was thinking, some people would try to say tattoos themselves are a fad or trend, but i thought, if thats so, so is wearing clothes. because tattooing has been around about the same time, maybe longer, id guesse the only trend thats been around longer than tattooing, is eating, breathing, and sex.
